On Mental Health Awareness Day – our simple shout out to building human to human social connections.

There is so much data and so many studies. You’ve read them, and we’re all getting the picture.  Human connection strengthens mental health.

A few highlights

2023 / Harvard  / From Loneliness to Social Connection – Lessons for Research and a Global Pandemic

★ Meaningful relationships activate neural pathways in the brain that promote emotional resilience and cognitive flexibility, enhancing mental health outcomes like reduced anxiety and depression

★ The advantages of social connection go beyond individual well-being to have a positive impact on society as a whole. These benefits include improved public health, community safety, resilience, economic prosperity, and the functioning of representative government.

★ Social interactions promote the release of oxytocin, a hormone that fosters trust and bonding, contributing to feelings of security and support

✘ Loneliness and social isolation, on the other hand, have been linked to negative outcomes, including increased risks of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline in older adults.

We know the HR teams we work with have access to a range of powerful tools and services to raise awareness about the importance of mental health. One of those is soft services that foster connection.

The RTG Wellness Team offer a diverse range of services and activities that can be launched on Mental Health Day and Mental Health Week – which many of our clients continue to host throughout the year.

These activities promote human connection in a neutral environment, allowing teams to engage in activities that encourage consistent participation and group involvement—activities that they genuinely enjoy.
